LAUTECH ASUU dissociates self from resumption notice

The Ladoke Akintola  of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has flayed the institution’s memo asking students to return to school on May 26.

In a statement issued by its Chairman and Secretary, Prof. Biodun Olaniran and Toyin Abegunrin, in Ibadan on Friday, the union dissociated itself from the memo allegedly issued by the ’s Registrar, Dr Kayode Ogunleye.

“Our union is in receipt of the memo from the  Registrar calling for resumption of academic activities for the first semester of the /2022 academic session on Thursday May 26, 2022.

“This is against the principle of our union and we wish to inform the general public that our branch is actively participating and in full support of the national struggle,” the statement added.

It further stated that the lecturers would not return to class until directed by its national leadership.
It, therefore, urged parents, guardians, students and general public “to note that our members are not in a position to conduct any academic activities”.

The union stated that it is fully on strike and asked parents to discountenance the memo and keep their children at home.

It maintained that the strike is not targeted at the Vice-Chancellor, the students or the  community but intended to help reposition public universities.
It argued that the outcome of the strike would benefit the children of the common man, the university community and country.

It further contended that the ASUU demands had not been met by the Federal Government.
The union also stated that the management of LAUTECH had yet to pay its members the outstanding Earned Academic Allowances.

“It must be emphasised that the strike has not been vacated and neither has the subsisting demands made by LAUTECH branch on the university been addressed,” the statement added. (NAN)
