Community decries demolition of properties, land seizures

Residents of Agondongbo community in Ikorodu have cried out to the Lagos State Government  over what they described as unlawful acquisition and allocation of their landed properties by some unscrupulous persons claiming to be working for the government.

Specifically, the community through the Baale, Otunba Oluwole Sanni, alleged that the culprits, in 1985, acquired their homestead  without any compensation for.public good but the said lands were now being allocated to private individuals.

According to the Baale, the community was disturbed because they had thought that public utilities, such as roads, hospitals, schools, markets, and police stations would have been built for them.

He said they consistently saw law enforcement officials and soldiers coming to their area in trucks.

He said: “When we asked them what they are coming here to do? They would say that this place is a government land. I was like how is this place government land? That do they have any demolishing order to demolish houses here?

“Since 2017, they have been coming here to demolish houses without any notification.

“Any time they to come, they just come and start demolishing houses. After they demolish houses here, they start selling the lands to individuals. We do not understand how government would acquire lands and start selling them.”
