A tipper truck yesterday crushed two policemen to death in the Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The policemen were on their way to their duty posts when the accident happened on the Ado-Iworoko-lfaki Road.
It was reliably gathered that the driver of the tipper fled immediately the incident happened for fear of being lynched but he was later fished out and apprehended by policemen.
Police spokesman Sunday Abutu said the two policemen were on a motorcycle when the tipper driver, who was negotiating a diversion due to an ongoing construction work on the road, ran them over.
Abutu said: “I can confirm to you that this pathetic event happened this morning when the two policemen, who were coming from Iworoko Ekiti to their duty post in Ado Ekiti were crushed by a tipper.
“The policemen were in their own lane; it was the tipper driver that was negotiating a diversion placed on the road by construction company rehabilitating the Ado-Ifaki by turning to the left side and overrran them.
“We learnt the two of them died on the spot. The driver of the tipper has been arrested.”
