I’m father of frustrated Nigerian youths, Obasanjo tells Charly Boy

A former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has told maverick entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, that he is the father of frustrated Nigerians.

Obasanjo spoke on Friday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, when Charly Boy and some others visited him.

He was reacting to a question by the foremost entertainer on the frustration of Nigerian youths.

Below is the conversation: “If as the president of the frustrated youths of this country, na me be their president, me myself I deny frustrated….”

Obasanjo interjected: “You are president of frustrated Nigerian youths.

“I am their father.”

Charly Boy then continued: “Yes.

“You are right.

“My question is this: If you were asked: by somebody from the street, no job, no work, no hope, the environment is so toxic, I don’t know what can grow in a toxic environment, if you were asked to advice that young Nigerian, Baba, what will you say to that person to give them hope because we have a serious battle in our hands.

“Some people have lost hope.”

Obasanjo then replied: “That we are poor and frustrated is not the fault of God.

“It is the choice of our leaders.

“And if you have to change that, change our situation, you have to change leadership.

“Pure and simple.

“And there is nobody who will do it other than the youths.

“(He then spoke in Yoruba language): “Omo eni kii se idi bebere ki a fi ileke is idi omo elomi.

“Meaning that you have a baby, your own baby, with a very robust waist, you don’t take bead and put on the waist of somebody else’s baby.

“I say to people that my own baby is Nigeria.

“That is the one that has robust waist.

“That is the one I want to put beautiful bead on.

“Not any individual, who I know they will not achieve whatever they promise they want to achieve.

“So, how do you do that?

“Or in the North, you will say: ‘Na mu na mu ni.’

“‘Tiwa n tiwa (Yoruba word for this is ours).’

“I don’t know what they say in your part (South East).”

One of those who accompanied Charly Boy on the visit replied: “Nkabu n kayin.”

Obasanjo said: “Hen hen (Meaning concurrence).”

Charly Boy interjected: “Baba say it.”

Obasanjo then said: “Nkabu n kayin.”

Chary Boy then rings his trade mark bell to signify acceptance in the midst of clapping and laughter.

Obasanjo then continued: “Now, that is not the issue.

“The issue is Nigeria.”
