Lagos Transportation Commissioner Dr. Frederic Oladeinde

The Lagos State government has added four more local government areas and five council development areas to the list of councils where okada operations are banned.

They include: Kosofe Local Government; Ikosi-Isheri LCDA; Agboyi-Ketu LCDA; Oshodi-Isolo Local Government; Isolo LCDA; Shomolu Local Government; Bariga LCDA; Mushin Local Government; Odi-Olowo LCDA.

The ban goes into operation on September 1, 2022.

The first phase of the ban took effect on June .

Six local governments and nine LCDAs were affected.

The affected areas included: Apapa; Ikeja; Surulere; Eti Osa; Lagos Mainland; Lagos Island, and their nine LCDAs.

The state government, on August 16, held a stakeholders forum to review the performance of the ban on the 15 local governments where the ban had been enforced since June 1.

Participants at the event gave the government the go-ahead to extend the ban to more areas.

“The ban is to further promote the safety and security of lives and property in the state. This decision is to further consolidate on the achievements made so far, with particular reference to decline in accident and crime, as well as to continue to bring sanity to our communities.

“While the ban is in force, the public are advised to resort to alternative and sustainable means of transportation provided such as the First and Last Mile Transport Scheme, the BRT Scheme, the Lagos e-hailing taxi Scheme (Lagride), and other acceptable mode of transportation to go about their daily activities,” Commissioner for Transport Frederic Oladeinde said yesterday at a news conference.
